Bushcraft is a popular term for wilderness survival skills. In this monthly overnight program we develop the skills essential for camping – useful knots, shelter building, woodcraft, safe and effective use of hand tools, camp fire cooking, plant identification and use, some basic herbal medicine, staying warm, and of course, having fun! We will learn by applying the skills in our day to day activities, playing lots of games, and exploring the curiosities of the natural world. We provide delicious and nutritious food and source everything that we can – vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, etc. directly from local farms and the wild. The program ends with an overnight backpacking trip in the mountains!
Below are the dates and some of the focus activities and fun crafts for each weekend:
Camp basics – knives, fire, shelter
Making our own Halloween masks from gourds
Leather pouches, slingshots
Altoids can survival kit, lightweight backpacking essentials
Backpacking trip! Parents will need to arrange carpooling for kids to and from the trailhead.
